Director of Safety

Job Summary:
Leads and manages the Trinchero Family Estates (TFE) Health and Safety team in the planning, implementation, sustainment and continuous improvement of all safety related processes and programs.   Partners cross functionally with all TFE Executives and Department Heads to serve as a leader, resource and mentor for improving safety culture.

  • Develops Safety Objectives and Strategy; ensures organizational alignment
  • Utilizes a customer-oriented approach to building and sustaining productive relationships with key executives and department leaders.
  • Implements Continuous Improvement philosophy for all safety processes and training.  Ensures Learning Management System (LMS) is leverage appropriately to administer safety training.
  • Mentors and develops all Health and Safety team members, focusing on leadership, team orientation, behaviors, and professional knowledge.
  • Develops road map to evolve overall safety culture, focusing on improved engagement and safety ownership at all levels.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of a decentralized Safety training environment; oversees the verification/certification of department safety trainers.
  • Works closely with Human Resources department to ensure alignment with training processes.  Ensures that Safety components of the Learning Management System (LMS) is current and impactful.
  • Under HR’s lead, communicates with captive insurance provider on case management; Remains abreast of all Temporary Duty Assignments.
  • Plans and implements safety policies, procedures, and reporting in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations
  • Plans and implements programs that enable the efficient and effective training of all TFE employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, equipment, and other materials.  Facilitates the upgrading of TFE safety training curricula as required.
  • Benchmarks world class safety organizations and processes.
  • Oversees the administration of the Safety Recognition program. • Manages Contractor Safety program.  Partners with Engineering team to ensure contractor compliance to all required safety processes.
  • Facilitates TFE-wide Behavioral Based Safety (BBS) process, to include data collation, analysis and reporting.  Utilizes data to predict risk areas and target improvements.
  • Ensures compliance with and facilitates the continuous improvement of IIPP, PSM, RMP, HMBP and EAP programs.
  • Ensures adequate, intuitive and accurate safety metrics are provided to all leaders on a timely basis.
  • Sponsors and manages select Central Health and Safety Organization sub teams; manages/coordinates CHS leader efforts and documentation.
  • Serves as an auditing resource for all facilities.  Facilitates corrective or preventive measures where needed.
  • Manages accident investigation process; ensures effectiveness of accident/incident investigation and immediate injury case management.
  • Understands and complies with Quality Management System related activities, including SQF and ISO


  • 8+ years of Safety Leadership experience, including 3+ years as a Safety Manager and 5+ years as a safety supervisor in a manufacturing/processing environment.
  • B.A./B.S. preferred.  University level training in safety, HazMat and related fields and/or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Previous management experience in safety and environmental compliance with governmental regulations.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office Suite).
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, observational skills, documentation skills, and follow-through.
  • Superior communication and training skills. 
  • Ability to work with effectively with a diverse population within the philosophies and policies of a large, family-owned and operated business, and to demonstrate and convey them internally to employees and externally to governmental agencies, contractors, suppliers, and the general public
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) highly desirable

Working Conditions:
