Director of Emergency Management & Public Safety

General Summary:
This position will report to the Director of Safety and will be responsible for overseeing and implementing the Company’s Emergency Management and Public Safety programs.  This position will lead a corporate team of subject matter experts in emergency management, business continuity and public safety with the objective to drive enhanced proficiency in the Company’s core emergency response capabilities, in addition to implementing public safety initiatives in support of enhanced public safety. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for implementing and overseeing the Company’s Emergency Management Program.  Includes the development of multi-year strategic plans across key operational business areas.  Able to identify needs and create/execute strategies to enhance core capabilities for emergency response across key operational business areas.
  • Provide guidance to business operations leadership regarding continued program maturity within the Company’s overall emergency management program for their business area.
  • Support the Company’s overall public safety efforts through the tracking of public safety metrics, and the development of public safety program initiatives to support enhanced public safety. 
  • Establish metrics, control plans and reporting tools (dashboards) to assess proficiency with the Company’s identified core capabilities.  Manage internal/external audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented according to schedule. 
  • Lead projects associated with the implementation of resources/technology needed to enhance emergency management core capabilities across the organization. 
  • Respond to emergencies 24/7 across the state to facilitate the utilization of the Incident Command System (ICS) at local command posts or the EOC as requested.
  • Supervise support staff (direct and indirect reports) in the delivery and execution of the Company’s Emergency Management and Public Safety program.
  • Respond to emergencies without notice and ability to work 16+ hour shifts for multiple days.
  • The individual for this position should possess a strong understanding of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System (ICS).  An understanding of these national standards and principles is important to effectively coordinate program efforts to drive improved proficiency across key operational business areas.
     

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, business, project management or related field.  Equivalent experience in emergency management, public safety, operational response, or project management of at least 5 years may substitute for educational requirements.

Essential Functions:
24/7 availability for emergency situations – field, plant, service center or offsite location. Must have a valid driver’s license – frequent travel required.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear.   The employee will be using a computer and the associated keyboard and mouse.  The employee must frequently lift and move up to ten pounds and occasionally lift and move up to seventy-five pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The noise level on the construction site is often loud.

Hours and Travel:
Meet travel requirements of the position.  Work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime.
