Corporate Safety Specialist


  • The Corporate Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) -- Occupational Safety and Health Specialist position is responsible to manage, implement and administer standardized EHS processes to ensure safety and health compliance to federal, state, provincial and local regulations as well as participate in the development of Corporate Policies and Procedures as subject matter expert.
  • The Corporate OS&H Specialist is expected to contribute to the achievement of world class status through reduction and elimination of occupational injuries/illnesses, property damage and environmental impacts.
  • This position will specifically focus on improving and safeguarding the health and safety of all employees, ensuring compliance, supporting World Class Manufacturing (WCM) safety pillar activities and Safety Management System (OHSAS 18001).
  • This Corporate Occupational Safety and Health Specialist position will report to the Corporate Manager of Occupational Safety, Health, and Industrial Hygiene - NAFTA, and be responsible for managing regulatory compliance, interpretation of regulatory applicability, interaction with local, state, and federal regulators - including negotiation/discussion of remedial activities as subject matter expert.
  • Oversee/implement EHS training programs and training assessments to ensure required training is identified and conducted.
  • Conduct regular audits of EHS processes and necessary follow up to ensure compliance and advise plant leadership and corporate EHS staff of findings.
  • Analyze injury/illness experience, identify/track injury correlation, determine root causes, implement corrective action and communicate this information to plant leadership and corporate EHS.
  • Manage new equipment programs at the concept stage to ensure that FCA design specifications and requirements are met, including, ANSI, ISO, NFPA and other EHS standards as applicable.
  • Manage routine safety reports, data acquisition, documentation, record keeping, monitoring, and review process.
  • Coordinate communication of EHS regulatory inspection activity with plant and other company leadership. Lead EHS projects to improve EHS key performance metrics.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Environmental Affairs/Engineering, Engineering, Science or related field
  • Minimum of 8 years of safety, environmental, engineering or related experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, provincial and local regulations and requirements
  • Willingness to work additional hours as required
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite and/or other software

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Master's degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering, Science or related field
  • Related professional certifications (e.g. CSP, CIH)
  • Automotive or manufacturing experience
  • Experience in leading and directing others
