Corporate Safety Manager- Bilingual

The corporate safety manager provides technical safety and health support to production and corporate personnel. Develops corporate safety and health programs and objectives and coordinates safety training programs. Monitors safety and health regulations and provides technical support to plant and corporate personnel to ensure compliance with federal and state safety and health regulations.

Reports To:
Senior V.P. & General Counsel (corporate and regulatory compliance issues), V.P. Plant Operations (day to day plant safety) & V.P. Field Operations (day to day field safety) 

Direct Reports:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Job Duties: 

  • Works closely with staff in legal, human resources, and operations.
  • Provides technical safety and health support and information to production and field personnel.
  • Prepares and maintains written safety and health programs and policies (e.g., training materials, IIPP, HIPP, SDS, HAZCOM).
  • Identifies company safety training needs and develops and coordinates safety training programs.
  • Develops annual company safety and health goals.
  • Participates in process reviews, including process hazard analyses, operator training, etc.
  • Supports corporate/plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards.
  • Supports plant personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Responsible for annual IHS inspections and testing (e.g., dust, spray booths, respiratory and hearing protection programs).
  • Promotes safety and health awareness through internal company memoranda and specific training programs.
  • Leads the safety committee.  Reviews safety committee meeting minutes and safety inspection reports and follows up as necessary.
  • Understands federal and state occupational safety and health regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur.
  • Audits practices and records of manufacturing plant to ensure compliance with company programs and federal/state occupational safety and health regulations, including mock OSHA and other regulatory body inspections.
  • Reviews injury/illness and noninjury incident investigation reports and follows up as necessary.
  • Manages onboarding safety/OSHA requirements that are mandatory requirements (OSHA 10 & 30, Defensive Driving for all employees with company trucks/cars/ forklifts/etc.).
  • Responsible for implementation of regulatory compliance, including RCRA, NPDES/SWPPP, and AQMD.

Education and Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Safety & Health, EH&S Management, or a related field required.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of leadership/managerial experience within the Environmental Health and Safety function including the auditing of premises and dealing with government inspectors required; minimum of 3 years at the corporate level.
