Corporate Health & Safety Coordinator

Reports to: Manager of Corporate Health and Safety
FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Essential Functions:

  • Provide technical expertise to improve processes that evaluate and control health and safety hazards and risks for AMP and MESA employees, included but not limited to those working in the corporate office, hydro and non-hydro generation.
  • Support the Manager of Health and Safety by presenting recommended content changes in the industrial hygiene component of the health and safety management system, ensuring the implementation of environmental health and safety policies/programs (at the site level), and performing self-audits to identify program specific deficiencies and areas of risk.
  • Serve as a technical expert for health and safety programs at AMP operated sites, provide guidance, technical support, professional expertise and training to AMP/ MESA site management and associates on activities that may have environmental, health and safety impacts.
  • Assist Manager of Health and Safety on risk assessment.  Collaborate with AMP/ MESA facility management and associates as directed to implement corrective measures, and monitor contractor oversight and health and safety audits.
  • Oversee and conduct routine safety training for AMP/ MESA staff stationed at facilities.
  • Assist with the preparation of Project related safety budgets.
  • Coordinate health and safety programs for AMP/ MESA employees to ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements.
  • This role is accountable to perform safety and industrial hygiene evaluations, participate in external audits/inspections by OSHA. Customize generic emergency response plans through development of site-specific elements and collates all data for presentation & reports.
  • Keeps abreast of laws, standards and current trends in safety issues.
  • Cooperates with county, state and federal agencies as appropriate.
  • Ensures that policies and procedures are current and that safety is maintained throughout AMP operations.
  • Conducts workplace and job hazard audits and inspections; provides analyses of work areas and assignments.
  • Analyzes and recommends safety related improvements to AMP/ JV operated equipment and facilities, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications:

  • A four year college degree, or a two year technical degree related to safety or a similar discipline is required.
  • Zero to five years of experience in Environmental Health, Safety, Industrial Hygiene and/ related experience is preferred.  Electric utility industry experience is preferred. 
  • EHS reporting and tracking systems experience preferred. Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, ASME and other standards on a local, state and federal level are required.
  • Technical knowledge of general industry safety requirements and industrial hygiene is required.
  • Experience with project management is preferred.
  • Experience in identifying, evaluating and controlling EHS hazards and risks in the workplace are required.
  • Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Sharepoint) required.
  • Must possess current CPR and First Aid certifications or acquire certifications within six months of hire.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment is required. Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to manage and successfully meet goals and objectives are required.
  • Must be a self-starter and team oriented.
  • Must be willing to travel extensively.
