Corporate Director of Health & Safety

No bureaucracy.
Apex was founded on the principals of agility and employee empowerment, and we’ve worked hard over the past 25+ years to build a culture of collaboration, communication, and opportunity.   That’s our secret to success, plain and simple.

We get it.
You live and breathe safety, and you expect others to do the same.  You want to work with the best minds in the business and for a company that walks the talk – putting the safety of its employees, clients, and others first.  For you, zero safety incidents is the only acceptable outcome.  But you can’t do it alone – you need the support and empowerment from leadership to make that happen.

You get it.
As Director of Corporate Health & Safety, you set the gold standard for a safety-minded culture.  You understand that our first priority is that our people all go home safe to their families every day.  And you also understand there are business implications for safety performance – what you do influences the success of our entire company.

Responsibilities:
Like every member of the Apex Team, your role as Director of Corporate Health & Safety is critical to our organization.  Naturally, you are accountable for the company’s overall safety performance – providing leadership and direction to our employees and managers nationwide.

While responsibilities of the position will vary day to day, in general you’ll find that you often:

  • Lead, implement, and improve a continuously evolving best-in-class safety program, fostering an authentic culture of safety focused on prevention
  • Design, build, and lead a collaborative framework that facilitates high safety performance through all levels of our organization
  • Empower all employees to own safety for themselves and others
  • Identify and maintain EHS metrics to accurately report, monitor, and continuously improve safety performance
  • Discover and address weak safety performance – recommending disciplinary or other corrective and preventative measures
  • Identify and deliver (and facilitate delivery of) training targeted to both ongoing and unique safety concerns
  • Investigate safety events including root cause analysis, appropriate remediation and corrective actions, and communications to share lessons learned
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA medical monitoring, recordkeeping, and other federal/state/local regulatory requirements
  • Serve as company liaison to OSHA and other agencies that regulate safety
  • Manage and maintain ISNET and other compliance-related program accounts
  • Manage, monitor, and promote company interest with Workers Compensation

In addition to your fulfilling role with a growing company, you also gain the advantages of:

  • A full benefits package including health, medical, dental, life, short and long term disability, 401k, and tuition assistance (among others)
  • Eligibility for defined performance-based bonuses and other incentives
  • Career development resources and support for you and your staff
  • Working with some of the best and brightest in the industry among a culture that values diversity
  • 600+ employee consulting firm led by an approachable, accessible executive team and the resources typical of much larger firms

Job Requirements:

Great minds think alike!  Now that we understand each other, let’s sort through the minimum qualifications for this position:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety or related field
  • 10+ years prior experience leading a progressive and successful EH&S program in a large and geographically diverse environmental, engineering, or construction company
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification
  • Demonstrated acumen in safety program management including knowledge of applicable OSHA, DOT, DOL, and other EHS regulations
  • Strong ability to drive continuous improvement programs to achieve safety performance achievement targets
  • Excellent interpersonal, written/verbal communication, and presentation skills
