Contract Safety Engineer

The successful candidate for the Safety Technical Support Engineer will join a growing team of Health, Safety & Engineering professionals helping our customers reduce their work-related risk to quality, productivity and employee health.

This is a contract position for approximately 16 weeks – this role may consist of travel to different locations, such as: Selmer, TN, Decatur, AL, Camden, SC, Lafayette, GA. Travel costs will be covered where appropriate.

Successful candidates will have the following attributes:

  • Thorough knowledge of state and national OHSA laws and Codes of Practice, corporate safety programs for manufacturing applied safety experience and knowledge of ergonomic assessment tools
  • Specifically knowledge of and demonstrated subject matter expertise in Lock out Tag Out procedures and risk assessment of equipment to meet requirements
  • Experience working in a manufacturing team environment
  • Demonstrated conflict management skills, strong interpersonal, negotiation and persuasion skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and organization skills as well as strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of tools

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Act as a Subject Matter Expert in the field of Safety, particularly in evaluating design of new/current, equipment with respect to Lockout Tagout procedures.

Conduct Risk Assessments on various machinery and tooling including tasks related to:

  • Reviewing LOTO procedures to be validated and updated
  • Reviewing LOTO procedure per equipment
  • Labeling unlabeled LOTO points as needed
  • Verifying LOTO procedure with process owner
  • Updating systems as needed
  • Making any changes required at the site per engineer feedback
  • Reviewing LOTO procedures to be validated and updated

Effectively communicate new initiatives, standards, regulations, significant incidents and management directives to internal and external stakeholders

Technical consultant and advisor in technical and non-technical safety topics, including local and national safety regulations

Must present the knowledge, confidence and ability to take immediate and appropriate action when an "imminent risk of serious injury" has been identified

Work in cooperation with union Health and Safety Representatives to achieve objectives

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, a related discipline or CSP certification
  • 5 - 10 years of experience in the field and in this area of subject matter
  • Available to travel to various customer locations
