Construction Safety Manager

The Construction Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring that the client’s SHE policies and procedures are incorporated and implemented in the all project lifecycle stages. The Construction Safety Manager also ensures contractor site safety programs are detailed and adequate during the project execution stage which is not limited to construction, installation, commissioning, decommissioning and qualification and to meet all relevant objectives set forth by the Client’s SHE Requirements Plan. The Construction Safety Manager is a key member of the project management team. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Implement an effective field safety program to prevent lost time injuries and to provide timely and accurate reports in PM Vitals;
  • Assists the Project Team as required on all aspects of safety and industrial hygiene;
  • Work closely with Regional GERE Construction Safety Lead in adhering to current SHE requirement and corporate SHE initiatives implementation;
  • Reviews Scope of Work, Plot Plans, P&ID's, etc. from a safe work method definition;
  • Oversees site induction program with Construction Management company or Contractors as applicable;
  • Identifies special safety requirements in project work areas;
  • Identifies and advises upon safety insurance carrier requirements - ensures that an appropriate and effective plan is developed and is complied with;
  • Implements safety reviews and audits;
  • Participates in HAZOP and other reviews to identify and eliminate process hazards;
  • Assists in the development of the Project Safety Plan;
  • Develops and implements a construction safety program with the aim of eliminating all lost time injuries, in keeping with the standards of the company and industry standards;
  • Prepares and implements additional site safety procedures to adjust to evolving circumstances and local requirements;
  • Keeps the Project Manager and Construction Manager closely advised regarding issues, problems and proposed resolutions regarding safety, including accident prevention and safety incentive programs;
  • Ensures prompt and accurate reporting of all safety information and provides the Project Manager and the wider SHE community with periodic and interim reports of relevant statistics;
  • Identifies Project Team's construction safety performance deficiencies as early as practicable and to prescribe effective corrective action to maintain contractual compliance and the opportunity to prevent lost time injuries;
  • Collaborate with Project Construction Manager to ensure that approved construction plan is effectively aligned with project field safety program;
  • Ensures that all applicable laws, regulations and company business practices are identified and assessed in a timely manner and that appropriate response plans are developed with the PM;
  • Deals with health and safety issues, solutions, complexities and difficulties throughout the lifespan of the work, to meet or exceed the client’s expectations.
