Corporate EHS & Facilities Manager

Gooch & Housego is looking for a motivated and independent individual to maintain, administer and help modify as required, our EH&S policies and practice. The role is based in Fremont, CA, working across the US Sites to establish a phased approach in assessing the current state and developing a culture of open engagement to drive improvement. This includes: managing and demonstrating compliance to all relevant environmental policies, programs and regulations, including the HAZMAT inventory and waste disposal; all relevant Occupational Health & Safety regulations, including the Sites’ IIPP; and where applicable the Sites’ ISO14000 Environmental Management Systems.

This is a matrix position: it works under Corporate strategic direction across all US Sites, whilst being the local EH&S prime with a dotted line to the General Manager at Fremont.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • G&H Fremont Site:
    • Maintain compliance with Federal, State and Local EH&S regulations, including HMBP & HMIS
    • Manage and maintain compliance to the Site’s IIPP and ISO14000 EMS
    • Manage local Emergency Response Team (ERT); act as local Emergency Coordinator, in addition to organizing and facilitating site safety committee meetings
    • Manage EH&S Training: New Hire, Chemical Handlers, ERT, etc., including but not limited to assessing site-based staff competency levels and develop training plans to establish a baseline in support of establishing site safety coordinators
    • Train and manage the Site’s Maintenance/Facilities (PM Compliance, Up-Time, etc.) and other personnel to act as effective Hazardous Waste Handlers


  • Across Other G&H Sites (6) in the US (CA, OH, NH, MA, MD, VA):
    • With Site Operations Management, conduct regular/sufficient inspections of each Site operation & records to ensure/demonstrate compliance with Federal, State and Local EH&S regulations; OSHA requirements; and other Corporate EH&S polices.
    • Advise on best-practice for regular EH&S risk assessments to ensure a robust system is in place to monitor and help drive improvement
    • Based on the inspections and risk assessment, develop appropriate corrective and preventive actions with Site Operations Team as appropriate
    • Support Site Operation Teams in preparing for the quarterly Executive H&S reviews and participate in the quarterly reviews



Skills/Job Requirements

  • Minimum BS Degree, specialization in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or Environmental Sciences or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in related field; Professional Certifications highly desirable (e.g. CSP, ASP, CHMM, CIH)
  • Solid practical experience managing HMBP & HMIS and demonstration of a lead OSHA role in a Light Manufacturing environment is a plus, ideally with multi-site responsibilities
  • Ability to interpret and react to changes to applicable Regulations at Federal, State, and Local level
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of health, safety and environmental regulations, and concepts (OSHA/CalOSHA)
  • Strong leadership, influencing, communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
  • The ability to travel to other Sites within the US (est. 25%-35%)
