Workers Compensation Specialist

Position Overview:
Under direct supervision, coordinates, administers, and oversees the workers’ compensation policy and claims. Reviews, investigates, and assists in making decisions regarding compensability and appropriateness of claims. Processes and documents workers’ compensation claims, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and evaluates all work-related accident reports for completeness and clarity of data
  • Coordinates with branches to ensure the return to work policy is utilized
  • Analyzes data, as needed, to ensure compliance with policy and regulatory requirements
  • Monitors vendor claims handling to ensure claims are resolved timely and accurately
  • Manages and interacts with vendors to ensure compliance with all appropriate regulations, guidelines and special handling instructions of the company
  • Coordinates and participates in strategic planning aimed at cost-effective resolution of claims
  • Prepares all necessary forms, records, and documentation, to include statistical analyses and reports for all claims assigned
  • Observe and report trends identified within the vendor system

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 5 + years of progressive Workers’ Compensation claims handling experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to build customer relationships and provide customer service
  • Knowledge and ability to cope with and resolve escalated customer service issues
  • Ability to investigate and analyze claims information and to draw conclusions
  • Knowledge of liability claims legislation, regulations, policies,  processes, and procedures
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer skills with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Time management skills, including punctuality for on-time attendance
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple tasks
