Senior/Principal Health & Safety Analyst - Corporate

This role is a project based position in support of developing/implementing safety initiatives for Steel Manufacturing.  This role will access risk, hazards, and exposures to employees and will implement programs and controls to eliminate the risk, hazards, and exposures.  

  Responsibilities include:

  •  Prepare reports that identify liabilities and risk to the organization. Report should list Federal standards, Consensus standards and best practices used in the steel industry. Report should state strategy with proposed tactics to achieve desired results.
  • Lead and direct tactical teams to evaluate the strategic safety initiatives addressing the risk, hazards, exposures, gaps, opportunities, and best practices. Develop a project plan that will eliminate or monitor those risks, and improve safety performance.
  • Manage project implementation within time constraints through the efforts of a core/extended team using project management tools and techniques.
  • Understand and effectively manage risks associated with safety strategies and tactics; resolve all associated issues.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with core and extended team members, resource providers, and Manufacturing and Business Leadership teams.
  • Ensure that the implemented tactics deliver the expected measurable and achievable results. Ensure the delivery of results that justify the implementation of the safety initiative.
  • Review and study best practices in the steel industry; both external and internal.
     

Desired Technical/Functional Skills:

  • Proven competency in root cause analysis/problem solving techniques
  • Strong understanding of behavioral and cultural safety science
  • Strong analytical & project management skills     
  • ISO14001/OHSAS18001 experience
  • EH&S program management experience in a heavy manufacturing environment preferred 
  • EH&S experience in a unionized workforce preferred


Thorough understanding of:

  • OSHA, ANSI, ASME, ASTM standards and requirements
  • Industrial hygiene assessment and program implementation
  • Respiratory protection and program implementation
  • Fall protection systems


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Engineering, Business, Physical Sciences or related, with at least 6 years of experience in a Manufacturing Health & Safety role. 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Physical Sciences or related, with at least 4 years of experience in a Manufacturing Health & Safety role.
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business, Physical Sciences or related, with at least 1 year of experience in a Manufacturing Health & Safety role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Engineering, Business, Physical Sciences or related, with at least 9 years of experience in a Manufacturing Health & Safety role.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Physical Sciences or related, with at least 7 years of experience in a Manufacturing Health & Safety role.
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business, Physical Sciences or related, with at least 5 years of experience in a Manufacturing Health & Safety role.
