Senior Area Safety Manager

Position will work with Supply Chain Safety and Environmental Director to implement Tyson Foods Inc. Safety and Environmental strategies for manufacturing facilities. Position will be responsible for providing support and oversight of multiple Supply Chain facilities. Developing and mentoring EHS site resources to ensure a safe, secure and compliant work environment for employees while enabling the manufacturing process to be low cost producers and drive continuousimp rovement through sustainability initiatives. Provides strategic direction and oversight to multiple manufacturing facilities in regards to safety, environmental, security and sustainability (SESS) programs.

This includes:

  • compliance auditing, communication and education of plant leaders and colleagues on safety, environmental, security and sustainability standards and practices;
  • ensures facilities comply with all federal, state and local regulations;
  • provides leadership, coaching and mentoring to facility personnel. 
  • Educates plant personnel and plant leadership on safety, environmental, security and sustainability work practices;
  • consults and reviews capital expenditure requests to insure safety, environmental and security compliance is achieved;
  • focuses plant resources to achieve superior performance in safety, environmental, security and sustainability metrics;
  • utilizes ongoing compliance audit results to recommend and implement continuous improvement;
  • directly manages relationships with regulatory agencies including managing agency inspections/audits, handling reporting requirements, obtaining necessary permits and responding to citations;
  • consults directly with plant personnel to evaluate new equipment and processes to ensure they comply with Hillshire Brands safety, environmental, security and sustainability standards;
  • provide leadership and assistance for in-depth investigations into serious safety, environmental and security incidents;
  • manages the emergency response systems in response to a plant safety, environmental or security crisis;
  • conducts safety, environmental and security assessments of both new sites and divestitures of existing sites;
  • engages in the development of the LRP process to include planning, employee engagement, plan deployment, and follow through;
  • leads group environmental, health, safety, security, and sustainability initiatives across Supply Chain business units;
  • consults and advises Supply Chain operations, engineering, legal and other support groups on Process Safety Management, waste water compliance, environmental regulations, permitting, OSHA compliance regulation, Notices of Violations, and other initiatives as required.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree preferably in safety engineering, occupational safety and health or related Hillshire Brands experience, Bachelor of Science or Master's degree preferred
  • Experience: 7-10 years of progressive experience in environment, safety, and sustainability management
  • Computer Skills: Basic computer skills
  • Communication Skills: Strong influence, communication, problem solving, planning, implementation and change management skills
  • Special Skills: Strong knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA, hazard communications, accident investigation and safety training methods) and environmental regulations (EPCRA, CAA, CWA, and SARAIII); Knowledgeable about best practice safety and environmental approaches;
  • Professional certifications preferred: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 70%
  • Supervisory Skills: Will manage professional Safety TEAM Members and mutlipe locations
