Safety Manager

SUMMARY: 

Under limited supervision, directs the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive safety, health, and environmental affairs program for the company. Develops organization-wide programs to preserve the environment and protect the health and safety of employees and the public. Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and standards involving safety, environmental health, chemical control, industrial hygiene, general safety, and fire safety. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develops, implements, and maintains comprehensive programs in the areas of industrial hygiene, general safety, hazardous waste disposal, environmental health, and fire safety; develops preventive programs to identify and reduce risks from potential hazards in the workplace.
  • Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates program effectiveness; effects changes required for improvement.
  • Works with risk management personnel to develop and implement employee injury prevention strategies and program(s); monitors program effectiveness and makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Oversees the overall operations of departments regarding compliance with safety directives.
  • Recommends and participates in the development of company policies and procedures.
  • Oversees and manages all safety committee activities.
  • Represents the Company to various government agencies and/or the general public/local community.
  • Ensures compliance with all environmental health and safety standards promulgated by all local, state, and federal agencies through development and implementation of on-site inspection and monitoring programs.
  • Keeps abreast of pending regulatory developments through reference sources; obtains insight on legislative agendas at state and federal levels.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
     

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree with some experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certified Safety Professional certification is strongly encouraged.
