Safety Manager

River Metals Recycling, a wholly-owned subsidiary of DJJ, has an exciting opportunity for a Safety Manager of nine scrap processing and recycling facilities.

POSITION OVERVIEW

1. Audits facilities for safety and environmental compliance; follows up to ensure correction of deficiencies
2. Works with facility core teams to investigate incidents and near misses
3. Manages the activities and development of the Safety Specialist
4. Provides or coordinates safety training for all levels of the organization
5. Develops and implements site-specific safety policies and safe work procedures
6. Performs industrial hygiene testing and implements corrective measures as needed
7. Approves safety supplies and personal protective equipment for use
8. Assists in enforcing safety rules and helps develop good employee safety attitudes during facility visits
9. Ensures all documentation and recordkeeping is properly completed and retained
10. Serves as first contact for OSHA or other safety regulators and recommends company safety policy changes

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety or degree in another discipline with equivalent work/industry experience
2. Knowledge of industrial operations, OSHA regulations, industrial hygiene principles, environmental and DOT regulations
3. Knowledge of Workers Compensation laws and experience managing return to work programs
4. Minimum three years’ experience in administering industrial safety and hygiene programs. Heavy manufacturing or construction environment preferred
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
6. Strong working knowledge of MS Office applications
7. Ability to organize and administer a complex safety program at multiple locations
8. Available to travel up to 50%
9. CSP or ability to obtain CSP within one year
