Safety Advsior - Railroad

Safety Management Group is a nationally recognized professional service organization that provides workplace safety consulting, training, staffing, program planning and implementation. Our client is in need of Safety professional to oversee a project in the Winter Haven, FL for the remainder of the year and then transition over to a year long project in Rocky Mountain, NC. Our client provides construction in the following areas: Railroad & Intermodal, Food Processing & Cold Storage, Commercial & Distribution, Academic & Religious. 

Under general supervision, observes projects and working conditions in industrial or other setting to advise the client regarding occupational safety and health regulations by performing the following duties: 

rovide safety services to and on behalf of our clients.

  • Observes workers and assists in evaluating job activities to determine use of prescribed personal protective equipment (e.g., hard protection, foot protection, eye protection, respiratory protection, fall protection, etc.). 
  • Assists with implementing administrative or engineering controls to abate or minimize safety hazards. 
  • Investigates causes of accidents to identify preventative safety measures. 
  • Conducts trend analyses, audits, accident investigations. 
  • Facilitates safety meetings where necessary including Tool Box Talks.
  • Performs incident investigations.

Assumes responsibility for maintaining effective communication and coordination with personnel and management of both Safety Management Group and the Client. 

  • Prepares and provides reports of findings with recommendations for corrective action to appropriate client personnel. 
  • Monitors the company's safety standards in accordance with OSHA and state regulations. 
  • Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant concerns. 
  • Provides assistance and support to applicable Client personnel. 

Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining professional business relations with customers. 

  • Researches and resolves problems and questions or properly refers them. 
  • Keeps customers properly informed of safety related activities or concerns. 
  • Maintains Company's professional reputation. 

Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned. 

  • Keeps office work area clean, secure, and well-maintained (if applicable). 
  • Completes special projects as assigned. 
  • Attends meetings as required.

Performance Measurement: 

  • Maintains client standard(s) of safety on all jobsites.  
  • Projects a positive attitude to encourage safety compliance and awareness by all workers engaged in activity upon client jobsite. 
  • Coordination and communication exist with other staff members. 
  • Management is appropriately informed of area activities. 
  • Assigned functions are efficiently and effectively completed in a professional manner.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
CHST, CSP, STS, or other Safety Certification preferred. OSHA 10 or 30 required.  First aid/CPR or other safety certifications may be required.

Education/Experience -

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety or safety related field from four year college or university preferred; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Experience in Railroad Safety, RWT Training, Class 1 Rail experience or E-Rail Safe Clearance 
  • 5+ years of Professional Safety Experience.

Required Knowledge:
Knowledge of OSHA regulations. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word along with Internet Explorer.
