Industrial Hygiene Manager / Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS)

Overview
The Regional Industrial Hygiene (IH) Manager is responsible for the strategic leadership of Industrial Hygiene (IH) programs in the Americas. The IH Manager is accountable for identifying and managing significant industrial hygiene aspects; keeping accurate and complete IH metrics; assuring that IH assessments (qualitative and quantitative) are thoroughly completed on a timely basis; completion of required IH-related training; and managing interfaces with governmental authorities.

Responsibilities

  • The IH Manager is responsible for providing strategic and tactical industrial hygiene support within the Americas, including: defining objectives and targets; establishing of corrective and preventive action plans; communicating of regulatory requirements; identifying and sharing transferrable practices, and providing necessary support for site industrial hygiene programs.
  • Conduct facility Industrial Hygiene risk assessments to identify high risk operations and determine needed courses of action, conduct qualitative analysis, develop mitigation plans and practices, make recommendations as warranted and assist with closing gaps as appropriate.
  • Develop and deploy Industrial Hygiene assessment directives and standards. Provide industrial hygiene assessment training and conduct assessments at various locations. Assist sites with their industrial hygiene assessment process, including interpretation of IH sampling results, mitigation recommendations, ventilation and follow-up.
  • Develop industrial hygiene training programs that meet or exceed federal, state, and/or local requirements. Develop and provide train-the-trainer programs to cascade training to those within the organization.
  • Leads continuous improvement efforts to enhance facilities operations and reduce operating costs.
  • Ensures integration and consistent deployment of standards and systems within the Region.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with all internal customers and identifies current state of EHS performance, risks, issues, and needs.
  • Deploys the Exide EHS Management System.
  • Collect and analyze EHS data and maintain compliance status reports.
  • Develop and implement accident reduction and compliance strategies.
  • Perform EHS compliance audits and manage corrective actions.
  • Develop and implement effective EHS policies and procedures.
  • Investigate accidents and reports of non-compliance.
     

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of experiencein comprehensive industrial hygiene practice within a corporate environment.
  • Must be thoroughly knowledgeable and conversant in the applicable EHS disciplines, sciences and regulations.
  • S. degree in industrial hygiene or related field engineering.
  • Professional certification desired, Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification desirable.

  • Highly motivated and self-directed, with strong influencing and leadership skills.
  • Must have exceptional skills in building strong professional relationships and networks to drive EHS programs and performance.
  • Broad knowledge of governmental health, safety, and environmental regulations and requirements (OSHA, EPA, etc.) and emerging global requirements
  • Demonstrated success in developing and leading teams, developing strong partnerships with businesses, and developing people.
  • Must be customer focused, and be a strategic thinker. Must have the ability to lead change and have strong consultative/influencing skills.
