Global Senior Manager, Environmental Affairs

Description

The Global Senior Manager of Environmental Affairs will be responsible for partnering with regional operations and EHS teams in our Operations network to develop and execute company environmental standards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations. By focusing on standards, risk assessments and compliance evaluations, this individual will lead continuous improvement initiatives to minimize environmental aspects and impacts and communicate and implement best practices. The Global Senior Manager must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. This individual must engage regional operations and EHS leaders in company environmental policies and assist the regional teams in incorporating Amazon’s environmental standards into their operations. The Global Senior Manager will be required to possess excellent international regulatory knowledge and demonstrate this expertise when working with teams throughout the world.

Global Senior Manager Responsibilities:

· Possess a thorough understanding of international environmental regulations and programs
· Develop, integrate and execute global strategies, policies, programs, procedures, standards, training, processes and actions throughout the operations organization to facilitate regulatory compliance
· Monitor regional performance against applicable environmental regulations, programs and standards
· Track, interpret and analyze business impact of environmental laws, standards and regulatory initiatives
· Ensure adequate assessment, prevention and control, and management of environmental issues and risks arising from operations, vendors and suppliers, company products and business affairs
· Analyze environmental metrics and trends to determine the appropriate allocation of resources to manage performance and risks
· Provide regional guidance to facilitate compliance with applicable regulations and Amazon Environmental standards
· Mentor EHS staff throughout the operations organization
· Provide environmental guidance to other Amazon.com teams
· Oversee work performed by contractors, consultants, and employees
· Facilitate thorough and accurate environmental incident investigations and associated regulatory reports and develop appropriate corrective actions for network implementation
· Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and manage multiple technically complex assignments concurrently
· Represent Amazon, as necessary, at appropriate levels with agency, industry, community, and professional associations to maintain and develop professional relationships, stay abreast of latest developments, and share good practices

Basic Qualifications

· A completed Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, chemical or environmental engineering or related field of study
· 10+ years of experience serving as an environmental technical resource, manager, program specialist, or program manager
· Broad knowledge of international environmental regulations
· International experience with regulatory assessments, applicability evaluations and applications
· Experience leading change in multiple site environments and the ability to influence those that are not direct reports or within your organization
· Must be willing to travel up to 40%
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with Directors and VP’s
· Experience demonstrating a high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others and achieve results
· Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability

Preferred Qualifications

· ISO 14000 or equivalent experience preferred
· Experience in a fast paced, changing/growing organization is a plus
· Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
