General Superintendent - Safety

Education Requirements:
 A four-year degree in safety or related field or equivalent education and experience.

Experience:  
At least 7 years of experience in leading and supervising construction teams; or have demonstrated leadership and supervision abilities to teach and develop construction supervisors.

Position Summary: 
The General Superintendent is a champion of corporate culture and Best Practices. The General Superintendent ensures best practices are being enforced on projects sites and addressing best practices that require improvements.  The General Superintendent serves as a technical expert and consultant to the site teams in their area of expertise and supports the company in the movement of leadership personnel.

Essential Job Functions:
The General Superintendent is a champion of Best Practices (safety, quality, etc.):

  • Assesses Blattner Energy culture and verifies that Best Practices are followed, enforced, and consistent on projects to help ensure site teams are safe, QAQC, productive and cost effective.
  • As a technical expert identifies where Best Practices do not address safety and quality and ensures the necessary changes occur by working closely with the Quality Department to share and develop Best Practice documents into content that demonstrates the best methods or processes.
  • Assists site management in the technical training and development of leadership personnel in Best Practices, safety, quality, etc., by possessing a clear understanding of how the company operates in accordance with Best Practices and mandatory operating procedures.
  • Responsible for the movement of supervisory personnel and equipment resources as applicable. Evaluates supervisors' level of competency for work assignments, advancement potential, wage and bonus review.
  • Assists in the recruitment of leadership personnel by participating in the interview and hiring process.
  • Serves as a consultant to site teams on the technical aspects related to area of expertise to determine the best outcome for the benefit of the company. Must be willing to share personal knowledge and experiences.
  • Communicates and advises Site Manager on any current and potential project and resource issues. Collaborates and communicates with Project Manager and Site Manager on resolving resource and project problem areas.

Other Job Functions:

  • Support the adherence to all company policies, corporate values, and state and federal regulations.
  • Assist Superintendents with ideas, methods and processes on all work and resources.
  • Supports site leadership on resolving resource and project problem areas as needed.
  • Work closely with Project Manager, Site Manager, Trade Superintendent and Field Construction Coordinator on monitoring essential productions and costs; and taking necessary corrective action.                              
  • Support economic conditions by learning and identifying latest equipment, tooling and material trends in the market.
  • Collaborate, coordinate and perform special assignments for Managers of Construction.
  • Periodically reviews hourly wages to ensure craft employees' wages are in the appropriate range. On an annual basis, reviews and proposes increase for the foremen.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and people skills, as well as interpersonal and collaborative skills at all levels within the organization and clients. Must be able to articulate clear and concise messages including translating technical material when necessary.
  • Possesses a good understanding of applicable OSHA regulation for construction projects.
  • Must possess the leadership skills and experience necessary to train and develop all Superintendents on Best Practices, processes and methods.
  • Must have a complete understanding of job costing, production labor hours and reporting on all related work.
  • Acts as a leader in a group of peers and/or subordinates.  Must be capable of orchestrating necessary conversations, meetings, presentations, etc.
  • Competent with computer programs (MS Office) and analytical tools.
  • Ability to maintain an acceptable driving record.  
  • Extensive travel is required

Safety Specific Job Functions:

  • Supports the adherence to all company policies, corporate values, and state and federal regulations.
  • Assists Site Safety Coordinators with ideas, methods and processes on all work and resources.
  • Supports site leadership on resolving resource and project problem areas as needed.
  • Works closely with Project Manager, Site Manager, Trade Superintendent and Site Safety Coordinator on assessing project risks and taking necessary corrective action. 
  • Supports economic conditions by learning and identifying latest training, equipment, tooling, and material trends in the market.
  • Leads the creation of both soft skill and hard knowledge milestones for the professional development of Site Safety Coordinators by applying both formal and informal means to help Site Safety Coordinators reach their occupational potential.
  • Collaborates, coordinates, and performs special assignments for Risk Management Director.
  • Collaborates with Site Safety Coordinators, Site Managers and Project Managers to establish and train the site specific safety manual, Safety Program, Electrical Safety Program and Best Practices.
  • Will interact on a regular basis with Work-Comp, Corporate training personnel, DOT personnel, Environmental Specialists, Corporate Management, Project Leadership, and General Superintendents.
