Environmental (SHE) Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science/engineering, or related subject.
  • Demonstrate in depth knowledge of environmental regulations for air, stormwater, Haz/Non-Haz waste, permitting and reporting
  • A minimum of three years' experience working with environmental compliance systems. EHS experience in heavy industrial/construction industry is highly desirable.
  • Success working with contractors/vendors supporting EHS objectives.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
  • Basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, database applications and federal and state environmental regulatory reporting systems.
  • Verbal/written fluency in Spanish is a plus

JOB SUMMARY:

The Safety, Health, Environmental, Community Relations, and Sustainability (SHECS) Manager contributes to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Sims Metal Management and Sims Municipal Recycling SHECS systems in NY, NJ and PA locations. The SHECS manager will advise the management team on SHECS issues, evaluate potential hazardous situations and environmental impacts, conduct accident investigations, and ensure compliance with all SHECS regulatory and Company requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides support in the development and implementation of SHECS management systems and compliance programs.
  • Manages environmental compliance activities including permitting, inspections and reporting and recordkeeping.
  • Evaluates safety, health, and environmental risks and works with to identify and implement prompt corrective actions.
  • Develops environmental, health and safety procedures and programs and monitors related activities to assure conformance.
  • Oversees inspection programs and performs regular SHECS inspections.
  • Prepares and updates training materials for environment, health and safety training. Also presents training to a variety of SHECS stakeholders.
  • Assists operations teams with incident investigations, identifying root causes and ensures corrective actions are implemented.
  • Assists the SHECS Director on projects related to areas of responsibility.
  • Assists SHECS Team peers by serving as environmental point of contact supplementing environmental expertise throughout the region.
  • Drives the implementation of programs and initiatives necessary to foster a strong SHECS culture.
  • Interacts with EHS Regulatory Agencies to assure compliance and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
