Environmental Health & Safety Officer

The Environmental Health and Safety Officer (EHSO), a mid-career position, will serve as the DRI Chemical Safety Officer. In this role the EHSO will provide hands-on support and will assist in guiding DRI research faculty and staff in the reduction of risks associated with chemical and biological hazards in laboratory activities and will ensure compliance with local, state and federal guidelines.

Towards this end, the EHSO will review scientific protocols and assess research work practices. Guidance will occur through individual and group forums that employ scientific problem solving, regulatory compliance, and motivation of research personnel. The EHSO will develop and present training and educational materials for laboratory safety and hazard communication (chemical safety). The EHSO will manage the chemical inventory process and hazardous waste management. The EHSO may be involved in special projects involving other EH&S staff members as well as DRI faculty and administrators.

This position can be located at DRI’s Reno, NV campus or at the Las Vegas, NV campus with frequent travel to Reno.
