HazTek Inc. is seeking an EHS Specialist for Central New Jersey. The key functions of the EHS Specialist are to support our clients’ specific project needs and ensure that best practices are implemented, safety compliance requirements are met, and an improved safety culture and performance is delivered.

Overview of Job Responsibilities:
Manage and direct the Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) programs for the Central New Jersey and Philadelphia locations.  Develop and implement effective management systems designed to ensure the sites are following all Local, State, and Federal OSHA/DOT/Environmental regulations and that continual improvement, pollution prevention and security are a part of the facilities main goals to effectively oversee compliance, the Manager will lead in developing programs, providing guidance, and acting as a resource to site business management as they implement and maintain the EHSS management system.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach, and motivate subordinate personnel to achieve department goals and objectives in a timely and safe manner, while continuously striving to improve personnel skills and department efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response programs, OSHA regulatory reporting and record keeping, facility compliance, environmental permits, facility life safety programs.
  • Direct and improve OSHA Voluntary Protection Program and ACC Responsible Care Management System programs, evaluations and certifications.
  • Develop and implement safety policies & procedures, incident investigations, loss prevention, auditing and industrial hygiene programs.
  • Manage site physical security procedures and contracted security force.
  • Manage facility EHSS related capital projects and oversee project contractors/ vendors to ensure timely and on-budget project completion.
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate action in new & developing issues in the field of safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, loss prevention, and environmental control.
  • Plan, develop and implement annual and required EHSS training programs, including on-line system.
  • Manage cross-functional EHS teams & committees.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards as well as other applicable federal, state & local laws.

Experience & Education:

  • B.S. degree preferably in engineering, industrial health and safety or similar degree with “hands on” experience in a safety/ environmental engineer role.
  • CSP certification, a plus
  • Must be able to work at all levels of the organization plus with external regulatory agencies & contractors
  • Must have strong project management & excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills required.
