Here’s what we’re looking for in a Environmental Health and Safety Specialist:
This position includes the development, implementation, training, periodic updating and auditing of a comprehensive Environmental Health and Safety program to ensure on the job safety of employees and environmental compliance. This person will assist development of a best-in-class safety management system through developing and implementing standards, procedures and training programs to ensure a safe and accident-free work environment. Promotes plant safety by working with all departments, employees and safety committee members to analyze processes and recommend safety improvements. Ensure compliance with government legislation, federal regulations and corporate policy pertaining to both Environmental and Safety programs.

  • Assisting / supporting facility departments in safety training to include behavior based safety programs, company and regulatory training
  • Providing quick and efficient responses to sensitive issues where a high level of technical, systematic or emergency thought processes is required
  • Evaluating and offers advice and implementation of solutions due to complexities of health, safety, training, and industrial hygiene issues.
  • Assisting EH&S review efforts for new facility design, existing process modification, product manufacturing modifications and new equipment/machinery installations
  • Establishing systems for the monitoring of workplace safety risks and environmental impacts through the analysis of work processes, materials, equipment and the work habits of employees
  • Performing health and safety audits and reviews investigation reports to ensure that corrective actions will eliminate recurrence and/or unsafe behaviors/conditions
  • Analyzing incident data to identify trends and accident types that can be prevented
  • Responsible for supporting the development of and implementation of a facility-wide EH&S culture through technical support, program development, and relationship building
  • Providing direction and assistance to Plant employees in fulfilling their obligations for environment, health and safety and creates positive and productive working relationships with all plant employees
  • Coordinating and conducting New Hire safety orientation, Management safety onboarding and other required compliance training
  • Assisting in the planning and delivering key safety concepts to provide the road map to zero injuries and world class performance

Here's what you need:
  • One to three (1-3) years of experience in the Industrial Hygiene, or EHS 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or engineering field, such as, Occupational Safety or Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or equivalent
  • EH&S experience within a food plant or manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge through formal education, training and/or experience on the principle and practices associated with environmental safety and health field
  • Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, Word, Project, and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications:
  • ASP or GSP and intention and ability to sit for Certified Safety Professional exam within five (5) years
  • Demonstrated platform skills with the ability to prepare and present technical subjects to an audience having diverse backgrounds
  • Familiarity with occupational health and safety management systems (e.g. ANSI Z10/OHSAS 18001)

  • Must possess leadership qualities and be open minded with the ability to lead projects from concept to completion
  • Bilingual a plus (English/Spanish)

Working Conditions:
  • Work environment includes Plant, Warehouse, Production, non-production areas and plant grounds
  • Ability to work (maintenance coverage) beyond the normal hours, shift, and on weekends/holidays
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in different environments as needed
  • Physical requirements include but may not be limited to
  • Walking up and down stairs/ladders as well as standing or siting for long periods of time
  • Navigating uneven surfaces
  • Ability to tolerate temperatures of 48 degrees or below while working in the plant
  • Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs
