Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

Shimadzu Precision Instruments, Inc., a fast growing manufacturer of Aerospace assemblies and components has an immediate opening for an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist. Shimadzu Precision Instruments, Inc. is a division of Shimadzu Corporation, one of the largest corporations in Kyoto, Japan, celebrating over 140 years of business. 

Essential Function & Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, implement and maintain site specific environmental policies.
  • Responsible for hazardous material and hazardous material management.
  • Responsible for hazardous material and hazardous material management.
  • Performs internal environmental audits and follows up with necessary actions.
  • Prepare and update spill prevention plans as required.
  • Review and interpret new and proposed environmental laws and regulations, provide guidance to management.
  • Monitor, track and ensure company EPA hazardous waste records are completed.
  • Conducts and coordinates employee safety and environmental training programs.
  • Conduct necessary environmental emergency response drills.
  • Develop, implement and maintain site specific safety policies.
  • Conducts with site management to develop, determine implementation schedule and operational requirements related to the site specific safety policies.
  • Collaborates with management to complete job hazard analysis and PPE assessments.
  • Monitor employee exposure to job and chemical hazards.
  • Develop recommendations for remedial actions when safety or environmental policies are not met by employees.
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations relating to the aerospace industry.
  • Complete and maintain required safety logs and reports.
  • Maintain plant safety statistics and submits reports of performance as requested.
  • Follow up reporting of spills and releases.
  • Develop implement and maintain safety contingency plans.
  • Develop a proactive approach and project plan to prevent and solve workplace safety issues.
  • Purchase and maintain site personal protective equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
     

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with an emphasis in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering preferred.
  • Three or more years of experience in design, development and general operational over site of environmental health and safety
     

Preferred Skills and Experience 

  • Familiarity and experience with surface treatment is a must.
  • Anodize, Chemical conversion coating, Cadmium plating, passivation, hard anodize, dry film, epoxy primer, polyurethane enamel.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office items such as Word, Excel.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying and documenting federal, state and local safety, transportation, and environmental regulations.
  • General knowledge in environmental hazards and safety disciplines with experience in safety, ergonomics, and environmental compliance.
  • Knowledge of federal and state environmental laws and regulations.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
