Environmental Engineer (GP Center)

The Environmental Engineer will have the skills and experience to assist, support, and primarily work with the manufacturing locations in the wastewater area.  Typical job responsibilities in the wastewater area will include identifying regulatory compliance obligations, analyzing and identifying wastewater improvement projects, troubleshooting wastewater treatment processes, assisting in NPDES permit renewals, and assisting facilities in interactions with EPA and state regulatory agencies as needed. Additionally, the successful candidate will conduct capability training as necessary; develop training aids and resources to support facility compliance and communications of regulatory changes; and provide information on emerging regulatory issues as directed by the Corporate Water Compliance Leader.

The candidate will also conduct facility reviews and audits to ensure compliance with Federal and state-specific requirements and to foster continuous improvement and assist facilities with closing systemic gaps.  Additional support for other water program areas including SPCC, Storm water, and Drinking water areas may also be provided as part of the job responsibilities as necessary to support the overall Water program, and to broaden the experience and advancement capabilities of the candidate.  To learn more go to: www.kochind.com or www.gp.com

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Good technical knowledge of the engineering, design, operation and technical aspects of wastewater treatment systems and processes.
  • Good technical knowledge concerning regulatory compliance, and management systems relative to wastewater treatment and discharge.
  • Ability to understand manufacturing processes, data, and implications on environmental performance and compliance.
  • Detail oriented with good oral and written communications skills and investigative skills.  
  • Good team and customer relations skills.
  • Good working knowledge of other water related programs such as SPCC, Storm water and Drinking water.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Aptitude to develop a good working knowledge and understanding of environmental regulatory requirements and then to implement them
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., EXCEL, WORD, etc.)

What You Will Need: 
Basic Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of 5 year’s experience with wastewater and water areas, and compliance program management and working knowledge of air and solid waste areas
  • A Bachelors and Masters of Science or Engineering degree in civil, chemical, environmental or other applied engineering field
  • Willing and able to travel up to 40% of the time nationally

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in the Pulp and paper/timber products industry
  • A minimum of 10 year’s experience with wastewater and water areas, and compliance program management and working knowledge of air and solid waste areas
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
