Environment Health & Safety Lead

The Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Lead position is responsible for leading a team of environment, health and safety specialists whose primary duties are ensuring the health and safety of employees and the protection of the environment and property. In addition, the Lead position serves as the key advisor to facility management on the implementation and management of health, safety and environmental initiatives designed to promote and achieve World Class Manufacturing status. The EH&S Lead will report to the Division Lead in the Corporate EH&S Staff.
 
The job responsibilities include, and are not limited to the following: 

  • Provide consistent support to the proving grounds and work from a developed agenda that focuses on identification of gaps in the implementation of pillar step requirements. 
  • Have a deep understanding of the SAF & ENV Pillar gaps and drive floor expansion execution
  • Ensure consistent follow up with the PGs to verify SAF & ENV Pillar expansion progress
  • Participate in knowledge growth activities such as WCM plant expansion reviews, benchmarking trips and best practice networking meetings/discussions
  • Oversee and review WCM SAF & ENV training activities and training assessments to ensure required training is identified and conducted
  • Conduct regular audits of WCM SAF & ENV processes and necessary follow up to ensure an understanding of the methodology and advise the plant SAF & ENV Pillar, Facility Manager, Central Team and EHS Division Lead of findings
  • Clear and timely feedback and communication to PG SAF &ENV Pillar teams, Facility Manager, Central Team and EHS Division lead
  • Assist the plant in analyzing injury/illness experience, identifying/tracking injury correlation, determining root causes/corrective action (S-Matrix & JSRA)
  • Ensure expansion review reports (gap analysis) action items are progressing in a timely manner with deviations communicated promptly, and suggestions for a recovery plan when indicated
  • Work collaboratively with WCM specialists from other facilities to help ensure alignment, consistent application of tools and sharing of team best practices
  • Direct and implement environment, health and safety processes designed to improve key WCM/performance metrics
  • Ensure compliance to Federal, State, and Local regulations, and Corporate Policies and Procedures
  • Manage the timely submission of documentation, reports, permit applications, inventories and surveys to appropriate government and regulatory agencies
  • Direct the implementation and sustainment of ISO 14001 (EMS)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering, Science or related field
  • Minimum of 8 years Safety, Environmental, Engineering or World Class Manufacturing experience
  • Strong understanding of WCM safety tools, step requirements, pillar integration and gap analysis
  • Basic understanding and application of Federal, State, and Local Environmental and Safety regulations and requirements
  • Effective written and verbal communication, excellent presentation skills
  • Strong leadership, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and /or other software applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering or related field
  • WCM Safety Pillar Lead, presented for a score 3
  • Safety related professional certifications (e.g. CSP, CIH)
  • Automotive or manufacturing experience
