Director of Safety



  • Supports and enforces current health and safety policies to attain the highest level of safety performance
  • Keeps current in changes or additions to health and safety policies and procedures in order to be in compliance with local, state and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations
  • Recommends modifications or additions to health and safety policies to Executive Management
  • Plans and implements modifications or additions to health and safety policies and procedures
  • Manages Safety Data Sheet (SDS) program, including monitoring and implementing any changes
  • Educates and supports all levels of employees in best practices in all areas of safety and accident prevention
  • Monitors, trains, and enforces Company drivers in all areas of Department of Transportation (DOT) Safety and Compliance standards
  • Participates in qualification of drivers and vehicles
  • Maintains all required records and logs to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal standards, including OSHA and DOT requirements
  • Monitors and Manages the activities of the Safety department
  • Conducts periodic meetings with Safety department staff and establishes departmental goals, objectives, and direction.
  • Conducts, documents and supports site audit visits to recognize safe work habits as well as identify opportunities for training and improvement
  • Conducts, documents and supports injury and accident investigations
  • Manages the submission and processing of all property, liability, and auto insurance claims.  Works directly with insurance company representatives, employees, vendors, subcontractors, etc. as applicable. Ensures claims are timely, provides insurance company with applicable investigatory information, monitors claim expenses, and ensures reasonableness of claim conclusions.
  • Oversees the administration of all aspects of the workers’ compensation program; including documenting required accidents and injuries, coordinating treatment and insurance claims processes, monitoring return to work programs and maintaining all required reporting documents
  • Works directly with Claims Department and other vendors to actively manage costs and reduce employee lost time
  • Compiles and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations
  • Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies 
  • Educates management on safety best practices found within the industry
  • Investigates property damages and make recommendations to lower the incidents of line cuts
  • Reviews property damage charges, verify accuracy and compares to incident report
  • Investigates company vehicle and equipment accidents and make recommendations to lower the incident of these types of accidents             
  • Manages required vendors, as needed, to address environmental issues/concerns that affect the company
  • Travel to all company locations including overnight stays, on average 17% up to 25%.


  • 4 year Bachelor's degree, emphasis in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or Construction Engineering a plus.  Minimum of 5 years’ experience with EH&S.
  • Additional and current OSHA certifications for both General Industry and Construction standards. Additional and current certifications and experience in DOT Safety and Compliance preferred
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus, but not required
