Director, Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) & Workers Compensation

Description:

Provides leadership and guidance to the global facility Management Teams and Employees, includes (US, Mexico, India, China) on safety, health and environmental issues. Manages the Facility EHS Programs, EHS Staff/ Medical Team, accident prevention activities, and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal safety, health and environmental regulations. The position will also be responsible for developing and implementing programs, strategies, policies, training and procedures to identify, reduce and/or eliminate risks; and to align with Brake Parts Inc LLC policies and procedures.

Responsibilities: 

  • Plans, develops and implements safety key concepts to provide the road map to zero injuries and world class performance in all functions and services of health and safety for all distribution centers and all the manufacturing locations in the US, Mexico, India, and China.
  • Directs and controls the safety and health function for organization to reduce safety rates, financial losses, and eliminate occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Collaborates with peers in the organization to provide global support to ensure compliance with all applicable health and safety, environmental, and workers compensation regulations while focusing on the improvement of key performance indicators.
  • Directs inspection of organization’s facilities to detect existing or potential accident hazards and determine corrective or preventive measures.  Leads the investigation of accidents and reviews material and evidence prepared for organizations use in preventing future incidents, hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
  •  Ensures field location compliance with international, federal, state and local law enforcement regulatory agency.
  • Acts as a liaison between Senior Management, Plant Management and Employee on matters relating to safety and health.
  • Plans and sets health and safety objectives and goals to be utilized by corporate and all the domestic and international locations.
  • Oversees the reporting mechanisms for all the global injuries, workers’ compensation, serious incidents and environmental releases ensuring compatibility with company objectives. Analyzes expenditure, financial and operation reports to determine requirements for increasing safety and communicate recommendation to Senior Management.
  • Administer and monitor written, programs, policies, procedures, and trainings to meet or exceed government regulations, industry standards, and insurance companies’ requirements to enhance safety performance
  • Works with the global and domestic EHS/HR Managers and Global Operations Managers, to conduct and/or participate in incident investigations, complete investigation reports and implement remedial actions.
  • Disseminate incident/accident related information and monitor incident/accident investigations, reports and verify corrective action is completed in a timely matter
  • Responsible for internal audits for Safety & Health Programs and DOT compliance
  • Participate in external audits
  • Interface with insurance representatives
  • Participate in the safety meetings at each location in US and globally if applicable
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned


Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 8-10 years related experience;
  • International Experience in manufacturing environment preferred
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is a plus
  • Knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations including OSHA, Worker Compensation, and L & I, DOT, and EPA
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety programs, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of investigative techniques and reporting, root cause analysis
  • Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PPT, and have the ability to learn other programs and software used by the company and ability to access and use database
  • Experience in behavior based safety programs
