Chemical Process Safety Specialist

The Palatka Pulp and Paper Mill, located just south of Jacksonville and west of St. Augustine, FL, produces more than 500,000 tons of paper each year. Products manufactured at Palatka Pulp and Paper Operations include Kraft paper and consumer tissue products such as bath tissue and paper towels sold under the Georgia-Pacific brand names of Angel Soft®, Quilted Northern®, Brawny®, and Sparkle®.

This position will report to the Chemical Process Safety Manager.  The responsibility of the Chemical Process Safety (CPS) Specialist is to lead process safety risk reduction across the facility, improve compliance of the Chemical Process Safety Program and assist with implementation of the Global Health & Safety (GH&S) Process Safety Compliance Standard.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Supports coordination and establishment of site-specific Chemical Process Safety and Process Safety procedures and guidelines for required Chemical Process Safety and Process Safety program elements
  • Work to build knowledge and capability of the organization around process safety hazard identification and mitigation efforts
  • Partners with operations in the coordination and monitoring of compliance with the Chemical Process Safety and Process Safety Compliance Standard and Guidelines
  • Tracks Chemical Process Safety and Process Safety action items to ensure timely resolution
  • Leads risk assessment efforts to proactively identify, evaluate, and mitigate risk
  • Partners with operations through identifying, leading, and assisting with improvement projects focused on risk reduction
  • Become Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) Leader certified to aid in and lead required assessments of CPS covered chemical systems

What You Will Need:
Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering or Chemistry
  • A minimum 1 years’ Process Safety Management/Risk Management Plan experience OR 3 years’ experience in an industrial manufacturing setting

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering
  • A minimum of 3 years’ Process Safety Management/Risk Management Plan experience
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an industrial manufacturing setting
