Associate Director of Corporate Industrial Hygiene & Toxicology

The Associate Director of Occupational Hygiene independently oversees and directs the systems framework for several critical global programs at Biogen including industrial hygiene, occupational toxicology and potent compound/small molecule safety. The programs are designed to mitigate risk and prevent significant exposures, illnesses and other events.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the safe handling of small molecule APIs at Biogen and for ensuring EHS information about Biogen molecules is communicated to business parterns who handle them. Corporate IH programs must be aligned with the overall EHS+S Policy and Management System. This position will work closely with the EHS+S Site Operations Leads to implement these programs at Biogen sites around the world.

Finally, as a member of the global EHS+S Team, the AD will be expected to contribute to the development of long term goals and objectives, new policies and procedures, metrics, targets and KPIs and other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of environment, health and safety experience, preferably in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical or other health care industries.
  • Experienced in developing, managing and implementing industrial hygiene programs involving small molecule APIs. 
  • Advanced interpersonal skills focused on collaboration, innovation, inclusion and communication. 
  • Fundamental understanding of EHS management systems, including ISO certification programs, highly desirable. 
  • Skilled presenter and speaker; presents in professional settings; excellent writing skills.

Education

  • B.S in life sciences, health and safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science/engineering or other similar field required.
  • Advanced degree (Masters of Science and / or MBA) strongly preferred.
