About the University:  
California State University, Los Angeles, under the leadership of President, William A. Covino, is one of 23 campuses of the California State University system. The Position: 
Under the general direction of the Risk Management/Environmental Health and Safety Director, the incumbent is responsible for the development, oversight, training and continuous improvement of the University environmental compliance programs and emergency operations, preparedness and business continuity programs for the campus community. 

The incumbent will actively manage the campus Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and participate in campus committees associated with the duties of this position. Will provide support, assistance, guidance and interpretation of environmental compliance, emergency operations/preparedness and business continuity programs to the campus community. 

The incumbent shall serve as the University’s EOC Coordinator responsible for staffing and equipping the EOC and maintaining it in a state of readiness, updating the University Multi-Hazard Plan and coordinating the ICS/SEMS training for EOC personnel.  Serve as the University’s Business Continuity Planning Coordinator, responsible for reviewing and editing BCPs. 

The incumbent shall develop and implement procedures, polices and directives specific to environmental compliance, emergency operations/preparedness and business continuity plans in adherence to the Cal State University, local, state and federal guidelines. This position shall support the Risk Manager/Environmental Health and Safety Director during the Director’s absence.

Required Qualifications and Experience:  

  • A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering and Sciences, Business Management or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in environmental affairs and compliance, emergency operations/preparedness, and/or business continuity programs at a university/college, industrial or regulatory agency setting, along with experience in the management of facility preparedness drills, table top and full scale exercises specific to site emergency preparedness.
  • A master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university may substitute for two years of the required experience.  
  • Credentials in FEMA Incident Command System (ICS), Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS) for California and National Incident Management System (NMS). 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Interpersonal relations skills; and knowledge of standard office software packages such as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • The incumbent must have the ability to work independently and within a committee/collaborative framework;
  • Form strong working relationships; manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Act decisively under stressful situations; and an ability and/or interest in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.
