The vision for the safety and health management curriculum is one that is recognized for preparing students to be well-rounded safety practitioners who have the confidence and capabilities to navigate the complex organizational and knowledge networks necessary to succeed in contemporary safety and health management.
The curriculum includes four programs: two leading to bachelor's degrees in safety and health management, a minor in safety and health management and a certificate in industrial safety and health. The curriculum also has a minor in traffic safety – safety education offered during the summer.
The safety and health field includes many industries, functions, and occupations. Graduates from the curriculum have a history of high employment rates and competitive starting salaries.
The four safety and health management programs provide options for the students to tailor the program to their specific interests. All programs are offered at the main campus in Ellensburg. The two programs leading to bachelor's degrees are also offered at the CWU centers in Lynnwood and Des Moines.
The Bachelor of Science in safety and health management is the primary program for the student seeking a baccalaureate degree leading to a career in safety and health management. The program requires 65-67 hours of coursework plus an approved minor.
The Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) in safety and health management allows persons who have worked in industry for a period of time to enhance their career potential by utilizing their community college educational and on the job experience to earn a baccalaureate degree following completion of upper division course work. The goal of the program is to prepare and enable students to fill professional level positions as leaders and managers within the broad area of industrial safety and health.
